Romantic Boutique Spring Sweet is a Bridal Dream Come True

By Published On: December 19, 2023

Located in downtown Holland in a building that’s over 100 years old, Spring Sweet is a must-visit boutique that since its opening in 2011 has become known and beloved for its beautiful — and perfectly curated — selection of clothing, jewelry, home décor, fresh florals, and of course, bridal gowns and accessories.

For owner (and the shop’s namesake) Spring Sweet, the boutique is truly a dream come true. “I’ve always thought that it would be so romantic to open my own shop. When I was little, I used to draw pictures of merchandised store windows and mannequins,” Sweet says. “I graduated from college with a degree in business and finance and started working in corporate finance…[but] I knew that in my heart, what I really wanted was to open my own business. Sell beautiful things. Create a wonderful experience. A place where people feel good…and feel beauty. So, I took the leap to open a shop filled with my favorite things.”

Today, the two-story shop offers “a collection of everything I love,” Sweet says — from luxe cable-knit sweaters, modern yet timeless gold earrings, velvet throws, printed pillows, cookbooks, candles and so much more. There’s also a walk-in cooler in the back corner of the shop bursting with unique fresh florals, which are often sourced from local farms during the spring, summer and fall. “It’s styled like a European Flower Market with buckets of loose stems, so that you can create your own bouquet. We also offer pre-made bouquets in the cooler and take orders over the phone or online,” Sweet says.

The second floor of the boutique houses Sweet’s bridal loft where brides will discover a discerning collection of veils, bridal jewelry and more than 200 hand-selected wedding gowns from more than 15 designers — a majority of which she says are independent brands that produce their designs in the US, Canada, and Australia. “Just like the store below, we only buy dresses that we love,” she says. “We are inspired by so many different styles and types of brides, and we like carrying gowns that are unique and special.”

Surprisingly though, bridal wasn’t always a part of Sweet’s retail plans. “Three years [after opening] the owner of a local bridal shop came to me and told me she was selling her business, and she thought I might be a good fit. Entering the bridal world had never been my intention, but the more I thought about it, the more it felt like it fit in perfectly with what the store was about. We were about beautiful things — what’s more beautiful than a bride and her dress? — and creating special experiences. So, I purchased the business and moved into their two-story building in downtown Holland, moving our first business into the main floor and creating a beautiful bridal loft upstairs.”

For brides looking to book an appointment, expect a private and memorable two-hour experience, says Sweet. “We want our brides to feel beautiful and find their perfect dress, but we also create an environment that is no stress — brides already have enough stress planning a wedding — no pushiness, and the most incredible gowns, for all types of brides.” Sweet adds that brides “will have fun, feel beautiful, and know they are in the best hands with their knowledgeable consultant!” The secret sauce, she says, that “makes our bridal experience so perfect. Our consultants are kind and warm souls, and just want our brides to find the dress of their dreams.”
