You’ve found your person!

They say when you know, you know. Congratulations on finding the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. It’s a big deal!

You’ve probably shopped for a ring or have it ready in a secret hiding spot. But now, you must find the perfect place to propose in Michigan. You want it to be special, scenic, and memorable.

The great news is Michigan has many incredible places to pop the question. And as wedding experts in the Great Lakes State, we’ve compiled our ultimate list of the top 18 scenic places to propose in Michigan.

  1. Pyramid Point Overlook, Empire

This gorgeous overlook sits atop one of the tallest dunes in the Sleeping Bear region and is the perfect place for a Pure Michigan proposal! Pyramid Point is a short .5-mile hike that offers incredible views of Lake Michigan and South Manitou Island. The best time to visit is at sunset. To elevate your proposal game, we recommend bringing a picnic blanket and bottle of champagne to celebrate — but remember, pick up the cork and leave no trace!

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Michigan – August 3, 2018. Sleeping bear dunes national lakeshore in Michigan has enormous high dunes that cascade in the vast blue of Lake Michigan. Visitors to this national park try their luck with sliding down the dune hill only to require great effort to climb back up.

2. Belle Isle Park, DetroitIf you’re looking for a scenic spot with views of the Detroit skyline, Belle Isle Park is the perfect proposal destination. Located slightly north of downtown, the island’s southern point includes a stunning view of both the Detroit River and the downtown skyline. Whether planning a summer or winter proposal, this spot is gorgeous year-round.

 3. Indian Head Rock, Munising

Pack your hiking boots for this proposal spot! Indian Head Rock is a scenic overlook along the 11-mile Chapel Rock & Mosquito Beach loop trail in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. At the overlook, the trail opens to a scenic viewpoint that offers a stunning view of the dramatic cliffside and shoreline. We highly recommend this one for a fall proposal, when the crowds have thinned and the black flies have left!

 4. Holland State Park, Holland

You can never go wrong with a Holland State Park proposal! This area is popular to pop the big question, and it’s easy to see why. Choosing where to propose here might be the most challenging part. Options include the scenic lighthouse and canal, the Lake Michigan shoreline along the beach, and the pier.

 5. Chateau Chantel Winery, Old Mission Point

One of the most scenic wineries in the Traverse City region, Chateau Chantel is elegant, stunning, and unforgettable, making it the perfect place to surprise your loved one with a memorable proposal. The winery offers elevated views of the surrounding vineyards and Lake Michigan, and an idyllic outdoor deck.

6. Aerie Restaurant, Traverse City

The top-floor restaurant is located within Grand Traverse Resort & Spa and offers some of the best views of any restaurant in the state. This offers the prime dinner-night-out proposal spot in Northern Michigan. Pair it with a stay at the resort for a truly unforgettable day.

 7. Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, Mackinaw City

The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse sits in a scenic park directly east of the Mackinac Bridge. It’s one of the best views of this iconic Michigan landmark, making it a perfect place to propose to your significant other. If we had to pick a time to pop the big question, we’d choose twilight, when the last light is left in the sky, and the bridge is lit up in the night.

 8. Riverwalk Promenade, Grand Rapids

The riverwalk in Grand Rapids is a scenic downtown location ideal for romantic walks along the Grand River. Even on bustling summer nights, the area is big enough to spread out and enjoy some time alone with your significant other. After the big moment, head to the nearby Rendezvous bar for celebratory drinks.

 9. Lavender Hill Farm, Boyne City

If you want to go the ultra-romantic route for your proposal, head to Northern Michigan to Lavender Hill Farm. The farm allows for pack-your-own picnics and offers live music, workshops, and more events. On concert nights, BYOP (bring your own picnic) is encouraged for everyone, which means you have a reason to mention packing an ultra-romantic picnic without looking suspicious!

 10. Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island

Of course, The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island is always a winner when it comes to proposal locations in Michigan. If you are looking for a “go big or go home” proposal, you can’t get much bigger than the Grand Hotel! But truly, any location on Mackinac Island is a fantastic place to become engaged.

 11. Brockway Mountain, Copper Harbor

Located at the tippy top of the Keweenaw Peninsula in the U.P., Brockway Mountain is one of the prettiest locations for a Michigan proposal. Drive up the winding road to the summit of this little mountain for 360-degree views of Lake Superior and the Upper Peninsula.

12. Campus Martius Park, Detroit

Campus Martius is the main square in downtown Detroit and is an epic proposal spot year-round. During the summer, the park hosts a garden, outdoor seating, concerts, and more.

 13. Lake of The Clouds Overlook, Ontonagon

We can’t write a proposal list in Michigan and not include Lake of The Clouds Overlook in the Porcupine Mountains. Although this overview is a scenic proposal spot year-round, this is especially true in the fall. The Upper Peninsula has long been known to have some of the best fall colors in the country, and the Porcupine Mountains are often center stage for fall colors.

14. Big Sable Lighthouse, Ludington

If you’d love a Sleeping Bear Dunes proposal without the crowds, the Log Slide Overlook near Grand Marais is an excellent alternative. In the summer, the area is perfect for watching the sunset over Lake Superior. You get the benefits of grand dune views, but there’s rarely more than a handful of people here at any given time.

 16. Fisherman’s Island State Park, Charlevoix

The state park is nestled just outside of Charlevoix and has some of the prettiest rocks and coastline in the area. The state park offers Lake Michigan-front campsites but is also perfect for a day beach trip. After the proposal, head into town for celebratory drinks on the Vue Wine patio.

17. Little Girls Point, Ironwood

Presque Isle Park is popular for weddings and engagements because of its scenic beauty, featuring block rock cliffs and crystal-clear Lake Superior water. There are numerous areas to propose along the shoreline that feel secluded and private. Better yet, the park is a short five-minute drive from Marquette, so you and your new fiancé can enjoy a nice dinner (try The Delft Bistro) after your big day!
