14 Essential Items to Pack for Your Honeymoon

By Published On: November 17, 2023

You’re newly married – congratulations! After the craziness of your wedding day and reception, it’s time to jet off with your spouse and enjoy newlywed life on a romantic honeymoon.

Whether hitting a beachside resort in Mexico or packing for the ultimate adventure honeymoon in Norway, here are 14 essential items to pack for your honeymoon:

1. Passport & Travel Documents

You can’t leave the country without your passport and other important travel documents! Before you leave, make sure to research Visa requirements for the place you’re visiting. Some countries require pre-approved Visas before arrival for United States citizens, while some don’t require any additional documentation at all. Starting in 2025, U.S. citizens will now need a visa to enter the European Union

2. Cash, Credit Cards, Debit ATM Card

Make sure you have all financial bases covered when leaving for your honeymoon! Carry a couple of hundred dollars in cash, along with both your credit and debit cards. Many credit cards can be used globally now, but be sure to research if you have a foreign transaction fee on your card. Debit cards are one of the most important items to pack on your honeymoon, as they can be used at ATMs globally. ATMs do charge heftier transaction fees, but the exchange rate is often much better than a currency exchange.

If you plan to exchange currency during your trip, avoid doing so at airports or in popular tourist areas, as the exchange fees are higher and the exchange rates are worse. You can end up losing a lot of money exchanging cash in the wrong places!

3. Travel Converter

Plugs change around the world, and you’ll need a travel converter and adapter if you plan to take your honeymoon anywhere outside North America. They are easy to purchase and can be found in places like Target and Amazon. Here is a global converter for $20 on Amazon.

4. Swimsuit

No matter where you’re going for your honeymoon, pack a swimsuit! Even if you aren’t going on a beach vacation, chances are you will use your swimsuit at a spa, pool, thermal spring, or resort. It doesn’t take much packing space, so be sure to include it!

5. Travel-Sized Liquids

Leave the full-size liquids at home and instead pack travel sizes of all the essentials. Here are the top items to ensure make it into your carry on baggage:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Sunscreen
  • Lotion
  • Contact Solution/Eye Drops
  • Toothpaste

6. Headphones

These are easy to forget but so important to have, especially for longer flights! We recommend a pair of comfortable, noise-canceling headphones for both you and your new spouse. In-ear headphones can become uncomfortable and hurt your ears when traveling for long periods.

7. Lingerie

This is your honeymoon, after all! Have fun and pack a little special something to enjoy with your significant other. Your honeymoon only happens once, and it’s the most romantic vacation you’ll ever take.

8. External Charger

This one is SO important but often overlooked! Especially if you plan to do all-day excursions away from your resort or hotel, you’ll want to have an external charger handy. Phones die much quicker when taking lots of photos and videos, and an external charger will ensure your phone won’t die when out exploring and enjoying memories together.

9. Formal Outfits

Make sure to pack a few nice outfits for some romantic dinners with your new spouse! Whether checking out the onsite resort restaurant or heading out into town, you’ll be glad to have a few nights to dress up and enjoy a nice dinner together.

10. Good Walking Shoes

If you plan to get out and explore during your honeymoon, pack those comfortable walking shoes! Your feet will thank us later. Make sure they are shoes you have broken in before your honeymoon, as you want to avoid getting any blisters from new shoes while out exploring.

11. Water Bottle

Airplanes make you dehydrated, and we highly recommend bringing a water bottle to fill up before your flight! No one wants to start out their honeymoon dehydrated and tired, and carrying a water bottle is one of the best ways to ensure you start the vacation off on the right foot.

12. Tote Bag

A tote bag makes a great carry-on item and is also very useful on vacation! They make great day bags when heading out into town and great beach bags for days lounging on the shoreline. For your personal items on the flight, we recommend carrying one backpack and one tote bag. If you have a smaller purse, you can easily fit that inside the backpack or tote bag to make the best use of storage and space.

13. Ibuprofen /Excedrin/Dramamine

Nothing is worse than feeling icky during your honeymoon! Pack the basics when it comes to medicines, including Ibuprofen for aches and pains, Excedrin if you are prone to headaches, and Dramamine if you plan to take any excursions that include water or land travel.

14. Journal

You’ll want to remember this time in your life forever, and keeping a journal on your honeymoon is the best way to capture those special memories. At the end of every day, have both you and your spouse take 10-15 minutes to journal separately. Don’t let this one slip your mind! You’ll be so thankful to have those little moments remembered for the rest of your lives.
