The presidential or flat fold is one of the simplest and most elegant pocket square folds. It pairs well with tuxedos and black tie attire, making it a great choice for a formal wedding. Cotton and linen work best for this type of fold.

  1. Lay the pocket square flat
  2. Fold the pocket square in half creating a rectangle
  3. Then fold the top down, almost in half, but just before the top meets the bottom
  4. Tuck it into your breast suit pocket with the folded side up

2. One Point Fold

The one-point fold is the IT pocket square fold. It’s a one-size-fits-all type of fold. Meaning it works with any type of fabric and can be worn with anything from formal to casual dress.

  1. Lay the pocket square flat so it resembles a diamond
  2. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner
  3. Fold both the right and left corners just past the center, aligning the bottom folded edge, creating 90-degree angles on each side
  4. With the folds facing in, tuck it into the pocket

  1. Lay the pocket square flat so it looks like a diamond
  2. Fold in half so the top corner meets the bottom corner
  3. Next, fold the 2 side corners in half (right and left corners) so it makes a smaller diamond
  4. Now fold the right, left and bottom corners to the center

  1. Lay the pocket square flat like a diamond
  2. Fold the bottom corner up to the top of the top corner
  3. Take the left corner and fold it to the right of the top corner
  4. Now take the right corner and fold it to the left of the top corner

The puff fold is a timeless look and can be used from formal to casual events. It is also something you can easily do if you are in a hurry. Silk or silk-wool blends work best with these folds. Fabrics like cotton and linen are a bit too stiff.

  1. Lay the pocket square down so it looks like a diamond
  2. With your thumb and index finger, pinch the center of the pocket square
  3. Pick up the fabric so it drapes down
  4. Grab the dangling fabric to create a tube
  5. While still holding the center of the fabric and the bottom edges, fold the bottom edges up the the center where your other fingers are
  6. Release your fingers holding the center part and flip the fabric upside down. This is now the top.
  7. Tuck the bottom with the edges into the pocket. Feel free to adjust the fabric of the puff if needed
