Simple Details That Make a Big Impact on Your Wedding Reception

By Published On: December 8, 2023

Hosting an unforgettable wedding doesn’t automatically mean throwing an over-the-top, budget-breaking celebration. Simple details — from offering late night snacks to thrifting unique decor — often make the biggest impact. Below are some of our favorites to incorporate into your big day.

 1. Late-Night Snack

After dancing the night away, guests will appreciate a late-night snack. The best part about this addition to a wedding is that it doesn’t have to be anything extravagant or 5-star. By this time of the night, guests are looking to fill their stomachs with some hearty food. Ask your caterer about providing guests truffle fries, s’mores, sliders, or even popcorn later in the night.

2. Seating Nametags

Display nametags for seating is a simple DIY addition to your reception tables that guests will love and appreciate. You or your wedding planner can customize these nametags to match your wedding theme or colors. There are also dozens of templates for wedding nametags on sites such as Canva, Etsy, and Zazzle.

3. Votive Candles

Votive candles are an easy and cost-effective way to add a warm ambiance to your wedding reception. Placing them on reception tables or as décor around the venue can add an elegant and romantic feel to the evening. Votive candles were initially used as religious detail in catholic weddings but have branched out and are now one of the most commonly used decor items for all types of ceremonies.

4. Bathroom Baskets

It’s such a small addition, but something they will be thankful for all night long. These baskets are typically placed next to the sink in the guest bathrooms and include things such as feminine products, sanitizer bottles, aspirin, Band-Aids, eyedrops, contact solution, mints, etc.

5. Hydration Station

Having a table or bar as a dedicated space for hydration is a thoughtful detail to implement into your wedding day. This area can include water, electrolyte-infused water, cucumber water, etc. Especially on hot days, guests will use, remember, and appreciate this area all night long.

6. Ambient Lighting

Harsh, overhead lighting is never wanted on your wedding day, and there are plenty of easy ways to add ambient lighting. If you are going for the boho vibe, thrift shop for some elegant vintage lamps to place around the space. Additional lighting ideas include globe string lights, Edison bulbs, and chandeliers.

7. Thrifted Vases

If you are looking for ways to spice up your reception tables with unique and memorable details, thrift shop vases are a great addition that will add elegance and fun to your décor. Remember, there are no rules when it comes to your wedding day! Not everything has to match, and sometimes the best details are the ones you found for $4 at your local consignment.

8. N/A Beer & Wine

Open bars are common at many weddings, but it’s easy to forget about also offering things like non-alcoholic beer and wine. A few bottles or cases go a long way and the guests who do not drink will be entirely grateful that you remembered and included non-alcoholic options.

 9. Staff Uniforms

An effortless upgrade to elevate your wedding is customizing uniforms for the waitstaff, bartenders, planners, etc. For many high-end weddings, you’ll notice the staff uniforms match the colors or the theme. It’s such a small, overlooked detail, but something that makes a significant impact on your day.

10. Sunday Brunch

Even if you and your new spouse will promptly jet off on a romantic honeymoon, offering a Sunday brunch option for guests is a thoughtful gesture and one last event to be remembered before the weekend ends. This is becoming especially common for weddings where many guests travel or stay overnight in a hotel. You can talk with a local restaurant or inquire with your caterer about ideas and locations for offering this on Sunday morning.

11. Welcome Prosecco

Offering each guest a welcome glass of prosecco leaves quite an impression at the start of the reception! Many couples opt to feature this as a ‘champagne wall’ with every guest’s name and glass. Other couples have caterers hand out a glass of champagne right before toasts and speeches so that everyone can raise their glass to the new couple together. No matter what you choose, adding this fun element is always a win!
