The Ballroom @ CityFlatsHotel Offers Old-World Charm & One-Stop-Shop Convenience
The elegant and luxurious Ballroom @ CityFlatsHotel in downtown Grand Rapids is the perfect fairytale wedding venue with vaulted and hand-painted ceilings, marble columns, walnut woodworking, large windows overlooking the city, and a grand staircase made for a show stopping bridal entrance. Built in 1926, the Ballroom is located in the old Michigan National Bank Building and offers wedding parties a full suite of amenities.

“Our venue is different from the rest because we are a one-stop-shop for couples,” explains Hospitality Director Morgan Fisher. “The Ballroom is adjacent to our hotel, which makes it easy for the bridal party to get ready onsite, and allows guests to stay on-site before and after the wedding. We also have The Parlour @ CityFlatsHotel, a hair and makeup salon that specializes in bridal styling. We exclusively provide in-house food and beverage catering and work with couples to help plan their big day, from menu creation to day-of timing, layouts, and more.”
The Ballroom can host up to 200 guests, but CityFlatsHotel also offers a second, more intimate event space on the hotel’s first floor. This space, Events @ CityFlatsHotel, is perfect for smaller weddings of up to 150 guests. However, many bridal parties also use it for rehearsal dinners, post-wedding brunches, and even bridal showers.

“Couples can have their ceremony in The Ballroom, head to Events @ CityFlatsHotel for cocktail hour, and then back to The Ballroom for the reception,” Fisher says. “We also make our Ballroom Suite and hotel rooms available for the wedding party to get ready in while enjoying in-house breakfast, lunch, or mimosas. Keeping guests in one location leaves more time for fun and less time spent traveling.”
Both venues include tables with floor-length linens, full china place settings with silver chargers, custom lighting, and item setup/teardown. The Ballroom also includes the use of beautiful Chiavari chairs.

CityFlatsHotel offers exclusive in-house food and beverage catering for everything from classic American items to fusions from around the world. They also make in-house dessert displays, including cheesecake bites, cake pops, tiramisu shooters, and more. All other vendors, such as florists, DJs, photographers, etc. are sourced independently, but the CityFlatsHotel team can make recommendations as needed.
Event coordinators at CityFlatsHotel work closely with couples to plan every last detail. They offer second-to-none knowledge on event execution and assist couples with the daunting task of creating day-of timelines and layouts. The team has successfully managed a wide range of events, including themed events or events that honor familial heritage or traditions. Recent weddings have included a Hispanic-Indian wedding that shared traditional dances and featured a menu of classic Indian dishes. They have also hosted Great Gatsby and Victorian Steampunk-themed weddings, and are looking forward to a carnival-themed event later this year with unique performances. The CityFlatsHotel events team takes great pride in helping their couples plan these fun and successful events.

“Our couples attribute the success of their wedding to our events team,” Fisher says. “Our event coordinators get to know our couples and help them bring their wedding visions to life. We offer unlimited communication to our couples and flexibility with special requests. Our coordinators even stay on-site during the entire duration of the event to ensure everything runs seamlessly.”
