How Long is a Mini-Moon?

A mini-moon is shorter than a full honeymoon, usually a long weekend or less than a full week. This short time frame allows couples to honeymoon immediately after their wedding without having to worry about taking too much time off work. The shorter time frame is still plenty of time for you and your partner to unwind and celebrate.

Where to Go on a Mini-Moon?

Because mini-moons are usually less than five days, it’s best to keep the location simple. The ideal locations for a mini-moon are near where the couple lives or near where the wedding ceremony was held. Convenience is most important — you don’t want to spend hours in an airport or driving long distances when you only have a few days!

If you’re looking for inspiration, think about your ideal honeymoon. Is it a cozy cabin in the woods? A few days at the beach? Exploring a new city? Camping together? You can’t go wrong when you’re spending a few days with your new love.

Once you’re there, you can fill your days with your favorite activities. You can relax on the beach, hike or kayak in the wilderness, explore local shops and museums, or treat yourselves to a spa day in the city. The opportunities are endless — and because you’re staying for fewer days, you may even be able to splurge on something extra fun!

Set Your Mini-Moon Budget

A mini-moon is usually cheaper than a full honeymoon, if only because you’ll be booking be fewer days in your hotel or rental. However, your budget is up to you and some couples use the shorter stay as an opportunity to splurge. You might consider finding a nice hotel or rental that comes with all the perks you’re looking for. Alternatively, you can splurge on fancier food or a special excursion just for the two of you. Either way, you should keep the budget realistic for your lifestyle.

How to Plan a Mini-Moon

Our number one piece of advice is to head out on your mini-moon immediately after your reception. You’ve put in the work for your wedding, and now you deserve to relax!

Try to keep it simple and minimize the necessary logistics — a short drive or flight is all you need for a nearby mini-moon. Plus, you don’t want to spend your limited time recovering from jetlag.

Don’t forget to unplug as much as possible during your time away. This is your time with your partner — work emails, texts from friends, or congratulations calls from loving family members can all wait until you’re back home. After all, you’re only gone for a few days! Use your mini-moon as a way to rest, recharge, and enjoy your time with your new spouse.
