Unexpected Things That May Happen on Your Wedding Day
No matter how much planning goes into your wedding day, you should always expect the unexpected! Unexpected Things That May Happen on Your Wedding Day
1. Weather Changes at the Last Minute
We know, we know, you’ve probably been obsessing over the weather for your wedding day! But even if the forecast calls for the all-clear, have some backup plans just in case. An outdoor ceremony could be affected by a sudden rain shower, strong winds, or an unexpected temperature drop. Have a backup plan, whether it’s an indoor space or extra umbrellas on hand. It’s better to be over prepared than under prepared!

2. Wardrobe Malfunctions
From a broken zipper to a torn dress or a missing button, wardrobe issues can happen to anyone at the wedding party. A bridal emergency kit with sewing supplies, safety pins, and stain removers can be a lifesaver. Here are some helpful things to include in your bridal emergency kit:
- Sewing kit
- Stain remover pen
- Extra buttons
- Zipper repair kit
- Extra undershirt (for the groom)
- Makeup remover
- Q-tips
- Wet Wipes

3. Unexpected Guest No-Shows (or Extras!)
Yes – it happens more than you think! Despite RSVPs, some guests may not make it due to illness, travel issues, or last-minute emergencies. On the flip side, some may show up unexpectedly, and having extra guests can definitely be more stressful. Before your wedding, don’t be afraid to send out a reminder to your guests about RSVP numbers and not to bring extra, unexpected guests. And no, most of the time those who bring extra guests aren’t doing it to be spiteful. We often see that they simply have not attended many weddings and do not know the proper etiquette for RSVPs and guests. Be prepared with a flexible seating arrangement and a couple of extra meals.
4. Timeline Delays
Even with a well-planned schedule, things can run behind. Hair and makeup may take longer than expected, or traffic might delay key vendors. Build in buffer time for each part of the day to avoid stress.
5. Tech and Music Glitches
From a microphone cutting out to a DJ or playlist mishap, technical difficulties can arise. Have a backup plan, whether it’s a second microphone, an extra speaker, or someone assigned to troubleshoot tech issues.

6. You’ll Blink and It’ll Be Over
It can be easy to get caught up in the emotional overwhelm of your wedding day. You’re communicating with vendors, checking the time, visiting with guests, and before you have time to really soak in the moment, the day will be over. Many brides look back and wish they had let the little things go and simply enjoy the day as it comes. Remember – you’re only getting married once. Don’t let little stress factors get to you, soak it all up, and take time to step away and view everything from afar. You put so much heart and time into this day, don’t forget YOU should enjoy it the most!
7. Vendor or Delivery Mix-Ups
Despite careful planning, mix-ups with flowers, catering, or other services can happen. Have a designated point person, so it’s not you dealing with it. A wedding coordinator or maid of honor is a great option to handle vendor communication. This is also part of making sure you are fully enjoying your day, not stressing over little hiccups. The truth is, there is probably something going to happen at some point, but you shouldn’t be the one dealing with it. Better yet, you shouldn’t know it even happened.
8. Something Gets Forgotten
Whether it’s the wedding rings, a special accessory, or the vows, important items can be left behind in the rush of the day. Create a checklist and assign someone to double-check that everything makes it to the venue. Give the best man a checklist for the groom, and the maid of honor the checklist for the bridal party, parents, and bride. On your wedding day, checklists will be your best friend!

9. Your Feet Will Hurt
Between standing, dancing, and moving around all day, sore feet are inevitable. Bring a comfortable pair of backup shoes or insoles to keep you going through the celebration. If you’ve never worn your wedding shoes before, break them in! No one wants to be dealing with blisters or sore feet on their wedding day. Many brides opt to change from heels to dance-floor ready flats or party sneakers for the reception so it maximizes both comfort and dance moves!
