Two Wedding Ceremony Scripts to Choose From for Your Big Day

By Published On: August 11, 2025

Your ceremony is more than a formality—it’s the heart of your wedding day. It’s where you pause, stand still, and truly feel the weight and beauty of the moment: you’re marrying your best friend.

Whether you’re dreaming of a timeless, heartfelt ceremony or something modern and unique, the words you say should reflect your relationship and your journey together.

To help you get started, here are two complete wedding ceremony scripts you can use as inspiration. One leans classic and romantic; the other is modern, relaxed, and personal. Each includes room for personal vows, unity rituals, and meaningful readings if you choose. But remember, your wedding script can be anything you want it to be! Whether you choose to use these exact scripts or take the outline and make it your own is completely up to you.

Ceremony Script 1: Romantic & Timeless

Best for couples who love tradition, sentiment, and poetry. Can be adapted for religious or spiritual tones.

PROCESSIONAL
Guests are seated. The wedding party walks down the aisle, followed by the bride/groom/partner.

WELCOME
Officiant:
Welcome, everyone. Today we are gathered not just to witness, but to celebrate the union of two souls. [Partner 1] and [Partner 2] have invited us here to share in one of life’s greatest moments: the joining of hearts in marriage.

This moment is a reflection of the love that has grown between them—quietly, intentionally, and beautifully. Today is not the beginning of their story, but a deepening of it—a commitment to walk hand in hand through whatever life brings.

READING (Optional)
Officiant or chosen guest may read something meaningful, such as:

“Love is a temporary madness; it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides… Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away.”
Captain Corelli’s Mandolin

DECLARATION OF INTENT
Officiant:
[Partner 1], do you take [Partner 2] to be your partner in life—to share in laughter, support in struggle, and walk beside through all the days ahead?
(Partner responds: I do.)
[Partner 2], do you take [Partner 1] to be your partner in life—to share in laughter, support in struggle, and walk beside through all the days ahead?
(Partner responds: I do.)

VOWS
Officiant:
At this time, [Partner 1] and [Partner 2] will share the vows they’ve written for one another.

(Couples read their personal vows.)

RING EXCHANGE
Officiant:
These rings are more than metal. They are circles, without end—just like your love. Let them remind you, every day, of the promises you make here.

[Partner 1], place the ring on [Partner 2]’s finger and repeat after me:
“With this ring, I give you my heart. I promise from this day forward, you will never walk alone.”

[Partner 2], place the ring on [Partner 1]’s finger and repeat:
“With this ring, I give you my heart. I promise from this day forward, you will never walk alone.”

UNITY RITUAL (Optional)
This can be a candle lighting, handfasting, wine ceremony, or something personal.

PRONOUNCEMENT
Officiant:
[Partner 1] and [Partner 2], you have promised one another your hearts and your futures. You have exchanged vows and rings, and you’ve chosen each other—completely and forever.

By the power of your love, and the joy of everyone gathered here today, it is my honor to pronounce you married. You may now kiss!

RECESSIONAL
The couple exits as music plays and guests cheer.

Ceremony Script 2: Modern, Lighthearted, and Personal

Perfect for couples who want a more casual, fun, and heartfelt vibe.

PROCESSIONAL
Guests are seated. The couple may choose to walk down the aisle together, or keep a traditional entrance.

WELCOME
Officiant:
Hi everyone! What a day to celebrate love. We’re here to witness something real and meaningful—[Partner 1] and [Partner 2] have chosen each other, not just for today, but for every day after.

They’ve laughed together, made each other coffee, supported each other through bad days and big dreams—and now, they stand here ready to make the ultimate promise: to keep choosing each other, every single day.

OPTIONAL READING OR STORY
Officiant or chosen guest may share a reading or story that reflects the couple’s journey.

“This is true love — you think this happens every day?”
The Princess Bride

Or, a short anecdote from the couple’s life, like the moment they knew they were “the one.”

DECLARATION OF INTENT
Officiant:
Let’s get to the good part.
[Partner 1], do you choose [Partner 2] to be your person—to love, to challenge, to cheer on, and to build a life with?
(Partner 1: I do.)
[Partner 2], do you choose [Partner 1] to be your person—to love, to challenge, to cheer on, and to build a life with?
(Partner 2: I do.)

PERSONAL VOWS
(Couples share their written vows. These can be serious, sweet, or humorous—totally your style.)

RING EXCHANGE
Officiant:
These rings are small, but they mean something big. They’re your daily reminder of a promise: I’m here. I’m in. I’ve got you.

[Partner 1], place the ring on [Partner 2]’s finger and repeat after me:
“With this ring, I promise to be your home and your adventure.”

[Partner 2], place the ring on [Partner 1]’s finger and repeat:
“With this ring, I promise to be your home and your adventure.”

UNITY MOMENT (Optional)
This could be writing a letter to open on your first anniversary, a toast with your favorite beer, or anything uniquely you.

PRONOUNCEMENT
Officiant:
Okay, you’ve said the vows, exchanged the rings, and made us all tear up. The hard part is over. Now comes the good part.

[Partner 1] and [Partner 2], I’m thrilled to officially pronounce you married. Let the adventure begin—kiss your person!

RECESSIONAL
Cue the music, cheers, and happy tears.
