Saugatuck

This waterfront town in Southwest Michigan is full of charm and offers multiple fun locations for an elopement. For a more traditional ceremony, The Chapel at New Richmond is a 130-year-old church with the perfect atmosphere for you and your partner. Alternatively, you could also rent a retro boat or tall schooner and cruise along the Kalamazoo River or Lake Michigan on your special day. 

Belle Isle Park

Located in the Detroit River, just offshore from the City of Detroit, Belle Isle Park is a small island featuring the Detroit skyline in the background. You can elope in the park, or rent one of the on-site facilities, like the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory. Zingerman’s Cornman Farms

Zingerman’s Cornman Farms is located in Dexter and is situated on a 27-acre farm with plenty of scenic vistas for your elopement. Their facilities were originally built in 1834 and are filled with charm and elegance for your special day. While they are equipped for a full wedding, they also welcome elopements or weddings of any size.

Sleeping Bear Dunes

One of the most classic locations for an elopement in Michigan is the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, along which are dozens of picture-perfect locations for your special moment. The sandy shores of Lake Michigan are a popular spot for weddings and elopements, so make sure to follow the National Park Service regulations and guidelines for weddings at Sleeping Bear, obtain the necessary permits, and adhere to their list of allowed locations. 

The Chapel in the Woods at Hartwick Pines State Park

A log cabin tucked away in the woods of Hartwick Pines State Park, near Grayling, offers a secluded and intimate spot for an elopement. The chapel is located along a 1.25-mile paved trail within 49 acres of old-growth forest — adding a little adventure to your ceremony. Follow all the reservation guidelines and prepare for a magical day. 

Beaver Island

For those not afraid of a little extra effort, Beaver Island is the perfect spot for an elopement. Located in Lake Michigan, 30 miles offshore of Charlevoix, Beaver Island offers a picturesque location for an elopement, beautiful dark skies for star viewing, and can also quickly transition to a honeymoon getaway for two. Pictured Rocks

Along Michigan’s most northern coast is the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore with miles of breathtaking cliffs and dramatic shoreline. Ideal for the more adventurous couple, the National Park Service allows weddings and elopements at Sand Point Beach and Miners Beach, but you’ll need to obtain a special use permit. Celebrate afterward with a hike along the cliffs!

Mackinac Island 

With dozens of beautiful locations to host your elopement, Mackinac Island is the perfect spot to celebrate. Take advantage of the multiple local officiants and dozens of wedding vendors for whatever services you might need. Marquette

Marquette is the perfect town for an elopement — not only does it offer small-town charm with city amenities in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, but its proximity to some of the most scenic views in Michigan make it special. Porcupine Mountains

In the far western Upper Peninsula, the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park offers some of the most rugged and remote places for an elopement. From beautiful waterfalls and the Lake of the Clouds overlook, to the Lake Superior Shoreline or serene forest clearings, there is no shortage of perfect spots. The Michigan DNR requires you to get a permit before marrying here, so make sure to read up on the guidelines.
